About the Artist

Deb Loucks is a mixed media artist from Venice, CA. She has had solo art shows at the Electric Lodge and Beyond Baroque Literary Arts and her work has been seen in group shows at the Brentwood Art Center, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Shoshana Wayne Gallery. She is co-owner of Small World Books on the Venice boardwalk, and also is the curator of the Small World Books Gallery (in association with the Venice Art Crawl), where her paintings are currently on display. She has a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA in Theatre Production Management from UCLA.

“As an artist, I am fascinated by the human figure: curves, muscles, faces, hands. My mixed media work combines charcoal and acrylic paint with collage to create a layered effect, allowing figures to emerge out of and submerge back into the textures around them. I enjoy the juxtaposition of different media, hard edges versus softer fields of color, torn paper against charcoal drawing against brush strokes.”
